Research Theme 1: Synthesis and Integration of the MAS Research & Evidence Landscape

Research Theme 1 brings together existing knowledge, stakeholders, and governance structures to create a shared understanding of the Marine Artificial Structures (MAS) landscape. The work package focuses on mapping research, identifying gaps, coordinating engagement, and building a long-term Community of Practice.

Core Activities:

  • Mapping & Gap Analysis: Integrating data from existing databases and sources to map research, stakeholders, and governance frameworks. Outputs will identify gaps, policy entry points, and barriers to a just transition.
  • Engagement Coordination: Aligning stakeholder engagement across partners and events (e.g. MEW, MASTS, Coastal Futures). A series of workshops will support collaboration and knowledge exchange across the community.
  • MAS Management Scenarios: Co-developing future management approaches integrating climate, policy, and sectoral considerations.
  • Community of Practice: Creating an inclusive network connecting researchers, industry, NGOs, and policymakers through newsletters, webinars, forums, and training.
